Enter values and calculate to see the result.
Interpretation
Enter carrier concentrations and mobilities.
Formula
σ = q · (n·μₙ + p·μₚ)
q is the elementary charge.
Variables
| Symbol | Variable | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| σ | Conductivity | S/m |
| q | Elementary charge | C (1.602×10⁻¹⁹) |
| n | Electron concentration | m⁻³ |
| p | Hole concentration | m⁻³ |
| μₙ | Electron mobility | m²/(V·s) |
| μₚ | Hole mobility | m²/(V·s) |
Assumptions & validity
This tool assumes:
- Drift conduction only; mobilities treated as constant.
- No field-dependence or high-doping mobility degradation modelled.
Worked example
n = 1×10¹⁶ cm⁻³, μₙ = 1400 cm²/(V·s), holes negligible.
σ = q·n·μₙ ≈ 0.22 S/m (≈ 4.5 Ω·m)
